DEBATS, what are the effects of airplane noise on our health?
Winner of the 2024 Golden Decibel from the National Council for Noise (CNB), DEBATS (Discussion of the Effects of Aircraft Noise on Health) is the first French research programme to explore the effects of airplane noise on our health. In collaboration with a wide range of actors and supported by the Ministries of Health and the Environment, the Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGAC) and Anses, this programme was steered by Acnusa (Airport Pollution Control Authority) and coordinated by Université Gustave Eiffel.
DEBATS has provided greater understanding of the negative effects of sound caused by air traffic on our health, thanks to the participation of 1,244 people living near airports who volunteered to contribute. The project was operated near three airports (Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Lyon Saint-Exupéry and Toulouse Blagnac) and led to greater understanding of local residents’ concerns regarding their health.
