How can we know if our cars are polluting too much?

In this Focus on Facilities video, we follow Patrick, a research engineer at the chassis dynamometer of the EASE Laboratory on Université Gustave Eiffel’s Lyon Campus. Alongside other scientists, he analyses pollutant emissions and energy consumption of vehicles. For this, he uses a chassis dynamometer, the only facility of its kind in France for independent public research, combined with gas analysers to measure pollutant emissions. This testing equipment recreates the same conditions as on the road, without the weather and traffic that could skew data. It is part of the platform to measure light vehicle pollutants, created in the 1980s.
