The civil engineering structures test platform

Published in January 2016
-

The structure test platform is used to study the operational safety and serviceability of large civil engineering and building structures. Created in 1967 on the Boulevard Lefebvre site of the LCPC (Paris, 15th Arrondissement), the test slab was later rebuilt in 2012 on the Cité Descartes site in Marne-la-Vallée.

The platform includes:

  • 1 slab measuring 60m long and 10m wide, suitable for full-scale sections;
  • 2 reaction walls measuring 5m x 5m, allowing structures to be stressed in both horizontal directions to assess their resistance to earthquakes or wind;
  • 1 network of anchor points on the slab and walls;
  • 1 set of jacks, including static (up to 500T) and dynamic (up to 80T),
  • over 1,500 sensors and measuring instruments.

Come and discover this extra-large-scale facility at Université Gustave Eiffel.
